Mountain Beauty to Music City...

This weekend my husband and I took an amazing trip to Chattanooga and then on to Nashville. The natural beauty of the mountians and the interesting landscape of the city was so inspiring! I thought I would share a few of the photographs we took on our trip. I hope you like them!

Family Portraits...Not just for funerals!

I know many of you are reading the title of this blog and wondering what in the world I am talking about...Well maybe its a southern thing, but in our family most of our family portraits are from funerals. Why you may ask? Well because this was the one time we were all together and dressed up in non clashing colors (because we were all in black). So you look at my grandmothers photo album and you will see countless pictures of the family in someones front yard all puffy eyed and plastering on a fake smile. These are not the memories you want hanging on your wall or the way to remember your family. By the way, who takes a camera to a funeral!  That is why I am an advocate for taking regular professional family portraits because who wants the story of you family portrait to be, "Oh yeah we were at aunt/uncle so and so's funeral"  instead of "oh, that was such a fun day with the family having our pictures taken and laughing."

I recommend either yearly to every two years to re shoot family shots depending on how your family changes because ssomething that ties with funeral family pictures with me is not keeping your family pictures up to date. I can only remember my dad's family having one "professional" family portrait that was taken in the eighties in a department store portrait studio. It hung on our wall for most of my childhood through the hairstyle changes, the embarrassment of my friends seeing me with a glorified mullet and perm, and worst of all from the changes of my uncles martial status and wives. I expect that it  could be really upsetting to enter a family and never make it in thier family photos!
So, in conclusion, family portraits are an important investment that gives you a memory of a day spent together as well as something to cherish for years to come. I only wish I had made this decision earlier and started updating our family photos before part of our family became a cherished memory...sorry didn't mean to get all depressing, but it is a regret of mine personally.

Engagement Photo Tips

Engagement photos can be a tricky subject for some pre-wedding couples for example there is no dress code or rules for what to do. These facts can also make them really fun and a chance to fully express yourselfs as a couple!

Get Them Done!:  Have engagement photos taken. Lots of people think these photos are something to skip and no big deal, but coming from someone who didn't have formal engagement photos taken they truly are a must! This may be your last time having informal photos of you two just to celebrate that new exciting love you share so take advantage of it!!

Try Outs!:  Use this as a chance to try out and get to know your photographer. Make this shoot another  special experience for you as a couple and make sure to voice your expectations and  wants to your photographer!  This is a great time to see if you like your photographer because remember engagement photos can be reshot, those special moments on your wedding day can't!

Be Yourself: That goes for your clothes, location and poses! The photos will turn out a million times better if you aren't trying too hard! Choose your outfits based on what you feel good in and what is you! Also, I find that choosing a location that is special to you can make all the difference and give the photo  more meaning to you as a couple!! Here are a few examples of this:

Where they had their first date!!

Adding animals always makes it personal!

Where they got engaged!

In front of a favorite resturant!

Just Have Fun!: At the end of the day the most important thing is that you have fun! Be creative, be yourself and have a great time (it will show in the product.).
